Jeff Koons’s sculpture, Buster Keaton, 1988 is a part of the artist’s Banality series. In this series, Koons takes on a populist approach, using commonplace images from mass culture. Buster Keaton is life size and was hand carved by Italian artisans, turning the gift-shop trinket of the famous actor into an absurd statue, the mass produced “kitsch” item turned into a highly crafted artwork.
